Unre-“lent”-ing month of giving up

Re-“lent”-less Pressure

You do remember the season of Lent don’t you? It started a few weeks ago! Ash Wednesday, remember?

You have probably forgotten all about it now. It’s probably gone the way of your New Year’s Resolutions.

If you look at our café display in the morning it is loaded with scones and pies and chocolate treats and homemade brown bread.

By the afternoon our customers have stripped it bare. Either by sitting down in the café with a coffee and a plate of goodies or filling red takeaway bags.

Temptation

We would like to apologise for putting temptation in front of you on a daily basis . . . But it’s our job!

So, if you are still staying off stuff for Lent, congratulations, well done, good job. Keep at it.

We won’t increase the pressure by posting pictures of warm apple and rhubarb pies gently steaming with a side of freshly whipped cream.

We will just write a few more sentences detailing the sinful delicacies available in Halo Café. Like the ROCKY ROADS, RICE KRISPIE MARS SQUARES AND CARAMEL SQUARES. Sorry for shouting and all . . .

I should also mention that we have now added pancakes to our menu. They are available with maple syrup. With crispy smokey bacon. With fruit compote and for the child in all of us . . . Nutella!

Pancakes were such a hit on Pancake Tuesday is seems a shame to keep them for just one day of the year.

You have been telling us for the last seven years to get them on the menu and we have now made space to accommodate your desires.

Delighted that you have managed to read our monthly post and hope that your giving up for Lent is holding firm.

Mind you! Paddy’s Day is on the way which means that most of you who have laid off the booze will be taking a one day break from your giving up!

Resolution month is over. Get on with breakfast and February.

New year’s resolution? Did it work?

If you made a resolution this year you should be well over that by now. That is, if you even succeeded in keeping it more than a few days.

Remember the birthday party you had to go to on the second day of January? The leaving party drinks you had after work one day. That Christening where everyone had to raise a glass to the sleeping babe and the glowing parents.

January

So if it really was “Dry January”, congratulations. If you took our advice and walked that extra mile, then even better, well done. You’re looking shocking well.

It is now back to reality. Well sort of. There is the little subject of Valentine’s Day coming up. Spring is in the air and there’s nothing half so sweet in life as love’s young dream.

First Dates Café

Halo Café has quite often been the location of first dates. There are no airs and graces here. You can be sure of a friendly welcome and there are no long words on the menu.

There are plenty of choices on the menu but you won’t find oysters or asparagus. We have plenty of chocolate treats available if you are looking for an aphrodisiac.

How do you like your eggs?

If you can’t decide what to have then the answer is simple. Breakfast is the food of love. Just make sure you tell us how you like your eggs, your toast and your coffee.

If you are planning a romantic get together at Halo Café there is no need to worry about embarrassing silences. We have a scrolling collection of our blackboard signs that will keep you amused and give you some talking points.

And if you are keeping up with the walking there is no better place than a stroll along the Liffey and Castletown House. Get out there and enjoy the walks, the fresh air and the scenery.

Thank you for your thank you

Thank you

Sometimes you get a lovely little email that really warms your heart.

“Thank you so much for the beautiful lunch, your food is amazing and your team so professional, they are a credit to you. I will definitely be back the next time we are organising an event and I will be recommending your catering to anyone who will listen !!”

This was a pre-conference breakfast and then lunch for 90 people, in a marquee, in the middle of a field. It also took place in the middle of a typical Irish Summer . . . Torrential rain.

Words don’t come easy

If you walk past Halo Café you can read some funny signs on most days of the week. This one is in celebration of the awful spelling and grammar that can be seen on Facebook. Enjoy the fun spellings, smile and walk on by.

Only last week someone pointed out an incorrect spelling. Only thing is, it was deliberate, done on purpose . . . Just to mess with your head, just a little bit.

Our Quality Coffee

Our coffee is roasted in Italy where espresso was invented. We discovered Mokaflor 8 years ago and enjoyed the smokey flavour and rich crema of the espresso. When milk is added to create your preferred beverage it’s coffee perfection.

So now you know that Coca Cola had it wrong all these years:

Have a Coffee and a Smile.

Ireland’s Ancient East

Ireland’s Ancient East

A visit to the Eastern Counties of Ireland is going to be packed with a host of historic houses, towns and villages to visit.

Celbridge is just 25 minutes from Dublin Airport and is packed with historic houses and buildings. Castletown House in Celbridge was the life’s work of generations of the Connolly family and is now owned by the People of Ireland.

Celbridge is a Georgian town built largely in the 18th Century in conjunction with Castletown House. The town is aligned with the tree lined avenue to the House.

Whether you are staying in Celbridge or just passing through, you can be assured of a warm welcome at Halo Café.

We are located just opposite the ancient famine graveyard and workhouse. There are 250 free parking spaces – no worries there then.

We look forward to welcoming you to Celbridge and hope you enjoy your stay.

Party Catering in Your Home

Party Catering Survey

OPTION ONE
Imagine yourself standing in your house holding a glass of bubbly, greeting your family and friends. Point them in the direction of the drink and the food.

“Help yourselves!”

Now enjoy your party in the company of friends and family. Enjoy a choice of freshly prepared homemade food and a slice of apple pie.

Say goodbye to a happy group of friends and family…. and accept their compliments as they leave.

And remember we bring the plates and the cutlery and the napkins and the buffet dishes. We even collect everything and take everything away and do the washing up!

OPTION TWO
Rush around preparing food all day, get sisters and aunties to butter bread and make a choice of cheese or hang sangwiches. Try to fit all the sausages in the oven at the same time as the reformed chicken nuggets and spring rolls.

Get the first lot of washing up in the machine and tackle the next lot in the sink. Get suds on the new outfit and chip your nail varnish.

Get changed….again. Touch up nail varnish. Remember to check the oven and find the spring rolls burnt at the edges.

Answer the door and rush back to the oven. Retrieve the chicken thingies and put the smoking trays into the sink. Run the cold tap over your burning fingers.

Smile/grimace through the pain and offer your guests the cheese and hang sangwiches.

Enjoy your party.

Say goodbye to your guests and tackle the washing up. splash suds on your outfit…again. Chip your nail varnish…again. Burn your fingers…again…

Celbridge Café knows how to tempt ‘Game of Thrones’ fans

by @OisinCollins Email author

There are certainly a few creative types working in Halo Café in Celbridge… (It’s beside the Tesco)
There’s nothing like a good funny blackboard sign to get the punters into your shop and hats off to the guys at Halo Café in Celbridge as they’ve been putting out some pretty good signs as of late.
They’re fairly confident that their scones are some of the best in the country (judging by their Twitter account) so they recently put out this gem…
