Stuff to do with stale bread after Storm Emma

This is not a recipe book. Just a few ideas to use up any bread you might have hanging around after the storm.

Quick and easy stuff to do. Flavoursome and filling. You have loads of snow to be clearing. You need to stock up on some calories to fuel that hard work.

See you all on Monday

Resolution month is over. Get on with breakfast and February.

New year’s resolution? Did it work?

If you made a resolution this year you should be well over that by now. That is, if you even succeeded in keeping it more than a few days.

Remember the birthday party you had to go to on the second day of January? The leaving party drinks you had after work one day. That Christening where everyone had to raise a glass to the sleeping babe and the glowing parents.

January

So if it really was “Dry January”, congratulations. If you took our advice and walked that extra mile, then even better, well done. You’re looking shocking well.

It is now back to reality. Well sort of. There is the little subject of Valentine’s Day coming up. Spring is in the air and there’s nothing half so sweet in life as love’s young dream.

First Dates Café

Halo Café has quite often been the location of first dates. There are no airs and graces here. You can be sure of a friendly welcome and there are no long words on the menu.

There are plenty of choices on the menu but you won’t find oysters or asparagus. We have plenty of chocolate treats available if you are looking for an aphrodisiac.

How do you like your eggs?

If you can’t decide what to have then the answer is simple. Breakfast is the food of love. Just make sure you tell us how you like your eggs, your toast and your coffee.

If you are planning a romantic get together at Halo Café there is no need to worry about embarrassing silences. We have a scrolling collection of our blackboard signs that will keep you amused and give you some talking points.

And if you are keeping up with the walking there is no better place than a stroll along the Liffey and Castletown House. Get out there and enjoy the walks, the fresh air and the scenery.

Thank you for your thank you

Thank you

Sometimes you get a lovely little email that really warms your heart.

“Thank you so much for the beautiful lunch, your food is amazing and your team so professional, they are a credit to you. I will definitely be back the next time we are organising an event and I will be recommending your catering to anyone who will listen !!”

This was a pre-conference breakfast and then lunch for 90 people, in a marquee, in the middle of a field. It also took place in the middle of a typical Irish Summer . . . Torrential rain.

OPTION ONE
Imagine yourself standing in your house holding a glass of bubbly, greeting your family and friends. Point them in the direction of the drink and the food.

“Help yourselves!”

Now enjoy your party in the company of friends and family. Enjoy a choice of freshly prepared homemade food and a slice of apple pie.

Say goodbye to a happy group of friends and family…. and accept their compliments as they leave.

And remember we bring the plates and the cutlery and the napkins and the buffet dishes. We even collect everything and take everything away and do the washing up!

OPTION TWO
Rush around preparing food all day, get sisters and aunties to butter bread and make a choice of cheese or hang sangwiches. Try to fit all the sausages in the oven at the same time as the reformed chicken nuggets and spring rolls.

Get the first lot of washing up in the machine and tackle the next lot in the sink. Get suds on the new outfit and chip your nail varnish.

Get changed….again. Touch up nail varnish. Remember to check the oven and find the spring rolls burnt at the edges.

Answer the door and rush back to the oven. Retrieve the chicken thingies and put the smoking trays into the sink. Run the cold tap over your burning fingers.

Smile/grimace through the pain and offer your guests the cheese and hang sangwiches.

Enjoy your party.
